Cognoscente Wild Wild West  ~Ride Report~
(1)

For me this rally was much anticipated.   For sure unique, in my backyard, and a cast of great riders.   I had cleared the calendar for this rally .....and the time had finally come!

Jerry White was coming into Reno Thursday night, and I helped him with accommodations.   Quite a few people would be in Reno and Jerry set up some breakfast plans for the group.   I would pass because I wanted to get an early start to Ely.

When Jerry got to Reno, I was sleeping but he sent me a text message,   When I woke up at 2a to get ready to leave, I saw his text and replied.

---INSTANTLY Jerry shot a text back ..he was awake, restless and couldn't sleep.    Soooooo,  I talked him into coming to Ely with me   LOL, he's miss the breakfast, but he'd get an early start to Ely ....A few minutes later I was at his Hotel and we were both ready to roll.

Yes, I'm a bad influence.

Sometime before 3a meeting Jerry at the Hotel, yes, I'm a bad influence.

---TOM MELCHILD had called me late the night before as he and Alan B passed through Reno.  Bad connection but they were aiming for Fallon as their  destination for the night..    Uhhh, and Tom was stupid enough to give me his Motel info -including room number  (bad move Tom)

So I told Jerry:  We have a quick stop to make in Fallon...

...and we quickly made our mark on both Alan and Tom's bikes.   I happened to have my CA24 rally towel, Jerry left a few tell-tale calling signs.   And, if it wasn't for the 4'6" cute night attendant at the Fallon Comfort Inn  -Alan and Tom would have had a couple of guyz banging on their door.  That girl saved you  :-)

Carroll Summit on route722  ...with the sunrise and a carcass.
Not a more beautiful way for two dudes to enjoy the morning.

Eastbound 722 as the sun comes up ....great morning!

At Sunrise we were near Austin at Stokes Castle -Overlooking the valley

Stokes Castle

Before 7a, we were already in Eureka, playing video poker, smoking cigs and checking out the scenery.

Jerry's fancy levers are perfect for holding a cigarette.

And then rally HQ's in Ely.    Many bikes before we arrived, many came later ...including Jeff Earls' very well thought out K1200

A lot of thought, detail and smarts went into this bike.

Roger's bike ...Good to see Roger and his bike is sure a farklefest.

Another Pic of Jeff's bike.

My adopted son:  Rick Martin.    A year ago, Kathy and I adopted Rick so that Grace would have a big brother  -Rick came a long way for this rally and it was GREAT to see him -as always.   Rick has the original and fastest FJR   -It's been in 3 IBR's

FJR's  have an issue with high heat and fuel transfer issues  ..Here Eric V is going to do some surgery on his fuel cap:

Note the fuel cap assembly removed and parts are spread on the tail of the bike in his customized briefcase.

.....As Eric does the surgery -removing and modifying little parts.

Even more amazing was seeing a GPS on Eric's bike!!

Now Rick Martin provides his $0.02 -he's BTDT  with his FJR's fuel cap.

Rick blowing compressed air to clean out vent tubes ....while Eric does a little airing-out of his own.  Eric always cracks-me-up
I first felt guilty about posting this picture, but if anyone knows better than to bend over in front of RenoJohn, it is my good buddy Eric.

Alan and Ray

The dog-gone Rallymaster.

Rick had an event-filled trip on the way out from Illinois -and not all good stuff.  Made for a tough long trip.

Rick you are the best, great to see you and look forward to having you come home to re-unite the family.

Porn??   Not likely, but it sure seems to be interesting.

Peace to you Lisa ......

Ray and I set up a rendezvous in the coming weeks to do some V-Strom riding.   Here Ray booking our rooms.   This adventure is limited to Ray and RenoJohn ---->NO, you can't come.

Hey George, when you're done, come scratch mine.

Tom A:  -Being good at things technical, -explains to Lisa -->"It's not working because you're holding it upside down."
Tom is handy to have around for such problems.

Sometimes the nice people stick together.

Mack and I spent part of the afternoon at the casino bar enjoying the air conditioning, scenery and beerz.   But mostly we enjoyed the stories the two of us shared.  Thanks for the fun Mack!

Some people come to be entertained.
...And others bring their own fun
Cletha brings her own fun and is generous with sharing it.   Here she is in fancy western attire:

5thumbs-up From RenoJohn on your spunky and fun spirit Cletha!!

Time to make our way over to the rider's meeting and dinner.   We'd be getting rally instructions and rally pack.

A long train of folks

Except for Rick ..who wanted his own side of the street to himself.

....and he got it!

Great food, and an amazing concept for a rally .......as we all tried to figure out a gameplan to live a lifetime of earning and spending in a single day.  No easy task.

Rally pack consisted of a few pages of rulez/instructionz  -and 83 cards that each contained a bonus.
Here I am sorting the cards into categories  ..I also color-coded the upper-right corner for easy reference as to theme and whether positive or negative value.
